Techno Revolution (8/1/04)
Boy, has our church been through a technological revolution!
For months now, plans & work have been underway to accomplish some major renovations to our facility. My old office is gone, soon to be replaced with a handicapped-accessible bathroom. This will be a major plus for the obvious reason, as well as allowing us to gain some more floor space in the foyer, easing the congestion a bit.
Phoebe's old office is now my study, & the adjacent workroom is now larger. Our new church secretary, Paula Ross, occupies that space, along with a new printer & digital color copier! You've seen some of the results of that sweet Ricoh already as splashes of color have caught your eye in the Sunday bulletin & even in this newsletter!
Pentium 4 computers are now the norm, networking is in place, & high speed cable internet access has arrived.
And have you seen the Sound Booth lately?! Jon Bowles is in techno-heaven back there, with new light switches & video projection system & even a new screen that rises & falls at his electric command! And can you say, Six CD copier?! In a short time, your song-sheet will become a relic, & announcements, message notes, scriptures & even video clips will be beamed up as well. He's also hoping to be able to email sermons in MP3 format to anyone who requests. Talk about accessibility!
Our website continues to attract guests on a regular basis, & will be over-hauled shortly to reflect our new identity. Our new logo is on the verge of going public, too! I think you'll like it.
All of this has meant a steep learning curve for those of us who utilize this stuff on a regular basis. If you're a teacher who needs to photocopy something, be sure to have Paula check you out on the new teeny-tiny printer. And if you'd like to help out in the sound booth, Jon would be more than happy to train you on what has become a fairly complex system.
A lot of people have given substantially of their energy & resources to keep us moving forward, & a huge THANKS is due to them! Technology has its place, but it can never replace a heart that cares or hands that help.
God is working through us here at GC3, & we will continue to use the best tools of our ever-changing technology to help us share His never-changing transforming grace.
